Mobility in the Last One Mile

  • Life in Urban Space
Re-urbanization is happening in America, people would like to live in the center of a city in the future, per capita living space will decrease while the need of living functions won’t, so those services and activities that improve life quality but less frequently be used will move towards cities rather than to families.
  • Public Sharing Transportation
5G is coming, IoT will be a common service in the future, let alone autonomous automobiles, while people will hardly have motivations to purchase private autonomous vehicles since no driving experience is needed. But people still need private space, so public sharing transportation system that provides relatively private space will be more possible in the future.
  • Better Mobility
Lighter material, smaller and more efficient batteries will be available on automobiles in the future, people would get better mobility and can be taken to even the narrowest road in the city.
  • Focused Activities: Working and Studying
Vehicle space is quite suitable for group working / studying scenario, especially for a future with a trend of working at home, the space is private, time promised and make you concentrated. Plus, sharing cars will enable people who don’t know each others to meet, they all have higher education, the vehicle space is just suitable for sharing experiences and knowledges.
Brand Analysis

A Feeling of Comfort and High Performance

By leaning the Hankook brand by comparing with other tire brands, I think it’s better to push the future Hankook brand to the bottom right corner, since the scenario is working and studying, this is the right corner that enables high concentration environment. Mood board for Hankook’s future brand emotion:

User & Scenario

Individual Cases to Broader Spectrum

Users and scenarios are set before thinking about design concept, though finally it turned out that it could be an universal solution. 4 Groups of people will be worth paying attention:

The Last Mile Solution with Higher Mobility

Initial Concept

To provide service for future working and studying scenarios with transportation, the concept is initially ‘improves the efficiency of your time with a private place that enables better concentration, eliminate the waiting time for finding a sharing vehicle, the traveling time on the road to a working place, and the time you wait for the people you are going to meet’.

Final Concept

The concept is basically a ‘sharing wheel system’. By ordering a meeting with people, transportation system automatically send you a wheel to pick you up to a pod, then your wheel will joint a pod, so that the pod with 4 sharing wheels can become a sharing car to take you further distance.

Most of the sharing wheels and all of the pods are parked in main stations, which are represented by larger dots on the map, so that the main station can be not only a charging place for vehicles, but also a meeting place for group of people. The wheels can also be charged at any other secondary stations (smaller dots on the map) distributed locally, so that the wheel it self can provide mobilities in neighborhood.
